At least with my body/experience the cup is held away and moves in a very dangerous manner when at full stride while reffing. I could not wear these after 1 game. Spoke with other refs who have tried these and they had the same experience. I re-purchased the WSI similar product and love it. Not sure why I changed in the first place.
Very similar to my review for Shock Doctor Men's Core Hockey Shirt,Quality + + + + +Price + + + +Features + + + + +Fit + + + +In the case of this product the fit is what drops it from a 5-Star to a 4-Star. I have been using Shock Doctor products for as long as I can remember starting with the mouth guard I used for football. When they started making ice hockey gear it was a no-brianer. I purchased these mainly to compliment my goalie gear as opposed to the gear I wear when playing out of the net. The reason was to incorporate the second cup under the goalie cup rather than wearing a second jock/jock shorts with cup. The fit of the pants themselves is perfect, good solid stitching and quality fabric that almost feels as if it isn't there. However, compared to previous years the protective cup itself has gotten smaller. In order to use the pants I had to pull an older cup out of a shorts set I had from 6-7 years ago the cup in the older set provides better coverage that doesn't feel like stuffing a sleeping bag into a compression sack. To remedy this I recommend either swapping out the included cup with one you know fits, or just buying a larger cup separately.
Feels good, fits well. Heavy enough that it keeps me warm when the rink is cold, but breathes well enough that it doesn't get clammy. The velcro tabs hold up my socks securely. Recently developed a small hole, but I skate pretty often and wash after every game, and it's otherwise holding up great.Really just have one issue: it doesn't hold the cup close enough to my body. I've tried both the one it came with and a couple others I had lying around, but all are kept a couple inches away. I haven't been hit to test it, but it makes me worry about how much crotch protection it's providing.

Had to return and reorder due to no/poor size info. Hopefully it will fit the user. I am adding the size chart picture on the packaging to help other potential Amazon buyers in future.
I have two sons 8 and 10, one taller and leaner, one shorter and more muscularwe tried these, Franklin sliding shorts, Easton youth sliding shorts and Louisville Slugger shorts (all from Amazon)both my boys have a 25" waist and we tried the XL of these and they fit both boys. The waist is a good fit on them both, and the legs are looser.I am hoping the elastic will stretch a little this season so they can wear them again for baseball next year too.The packet says this fits a 28-30" waist but I think that would be a very uncomfortable fit. I measured the elastic waist band lying flat on the floor and it is 24-25" and doesn't seem to have much stretch. The best selling point for these over the other brands is the cup pocket. It is wider and easier to get the cup into, and it is sewn to curve inside the shorts and follow the shape of the cup up and around. Both my boys preferred how their cups fit and how snug they felt against them as opposed to the other shorts where the cup kind of hung down the front of the shorts.XL size came with a teen size cup which looks BIG on my 8 year old, but he can fit a wider cup there. My 10 year old who is thinner thought the teen cup was too big and is wearing a smaller cup which fit great in the pocket too.
The cup is good and seems like it will protect well and last a few years. The compression shorts are comfortable and fit as they should, but when you put the cup in the shorts it is nearly worthless because every time you move the cup does not cover you properly anymore. If you crouch down you basically have zero protection.
